"I, for one, will welcome our new Sexbot masters . . . "

Vox Rox, once again, as he hits on a subject I’ve been eager to explore but, alas, I’ve hesitated to, due to the occasional anti-nerd bias that appears from time to time in the Manosphere.  I get enough heat over my hyperbole, and the following is going to seem like crazy sci-fi, not a rational and reasonable prediction of the future.  But since the always-well-respected Vox Day has broached the subject, I can get my nerdy little hands on it without looking like the geeky kid.  Here’s the thing:

The Sexbot threat to feminism is real.

No one wants to admit it, but it’s coming.  Indeed, the only people who recognize it as such are the radical feminists and the radical nerds, and rarely do folks take those groups at face value when they speak.  But they both have it right, sexbots are in our future.  Indeed, they’re closer than you think, and their capacity to seriously screw with the SMP is very, very real.

When you think “sex bot”, you’re probably thinking of the Austin Powers’ version, or perhaps just a solid-core doll with a vibrating twat.  The reality of the situation is this: Japan, the undisputed global leaders in male masturbation technology, are investing literally millions in research into this market.  Why?  Because of the herbivores.

The “herbivores” are the adult males (I hesitate to call them men) in Japanese society who have opted out of the dating-and-mating SMP entirely.  In consideration of the exhausting and complex web of social and financial penalties involved, these men have just . . . given up on women.  When they do look for sexual release they either masturbate or (more rarely) visit a brothel.  They do not, for the most part, mate.

The Herbivores are considered the natural result of post-industrial society, so its within the interests of the Manosphere to pay close attention.  They tend to range from 25-35, and they live simple lives pursuing their hobbies and going to work and . . . that’s it.  You think American women feel entitled?  Japanese “princesses” put them to shame.  Their demands and requirements for a husband are often so grandiose or unrealistic that they have turned-off an entire generation of Japanese men to the very idea of marriage, just at the point where their female contemporaries, themselves working in corporate jobs, are starting to consider it.

"Rebecca" Model, complete cooking/cleaning
/fellatio software standard, $9,999.99 Today Only!
But when your day consists of going to work in a cube farm and playing the corporate warrior competing with women all day, apparently it saps your desire to deal with them all night, too.  Instead, these men have turned their backs on emotionally investing in either.  Sure, it sounds like one of those crazy Japanese social stats,  After all, the problem can’t be that bad, can it?  How many of the young men between 25 and 35 have self-identified as Herbivores, and do not actively plan on marrying?

Over 60%.

Ladies, think about that figure for a moment.  Even if you subtract a generous 5-10% for homosexual men, that still means that only half – at most – of men in Japan’s advanced post-industrial society will be available for marriage.  And despite Japan’s unique forms of feminism, that issue has become a very, very big one for Japanese women.

Enter the Japanese sex companies.  Long an important part of international sex culture, the last few decades have seen rapid advances in masturbation technology, including the disposable Tenga “egg” stroker you can buy in a vending machine for those long lunch hours.  Japanese dudes whack it a lot, and that’s big business.  So Japanese firms are preparing for, and feverishly developing, the Sexbot for sale in the near future.

At this point they’re still pretty crude, so you ladies can relax for half a decade.  But by 2018, and certainly by 2020, we’ll see animatronic Sexbots available for purchase that you will not be able to distinguish from a human being more than ten feet away.

Every aspect of the phenomenon is being developed: realistic-feeling skin, realistic-looking eyes, realistic-sounding voice, realistic weight and mass, realistic movements . . . the Japanese are highly detail-oriented.  When you see what they offer in a high-end sex doll now, just imagine what they can do when it’s actually a robot.  The Japanese LOVE robots.  When they build them, they build them like works of art.

"Linda" Model, used, some aftermarket parts,
5 years old, $4,400.00 OBO
The current state-of-the-art is still primitive, but that’s changing rapidly.  By 2020 your Sexbot will be able to walk, talk, see, hear, suck, fuck, give you an endless handjob, take it up her vibrating butt and do stuff no mortal woman can.  You will be able to order them in any style, from African to Asian to European to Latin and beyond, any height, any weight, and you will be able to personalize them to suit your particular fetish.  Advanced models will have changeable bust sizes and other options.  Hair, eyes, and accent?  Standard options.

And just how much will dudes have to shell out to get a perfectly-programmed girlfriend delivered to their door?

About the price of an economy car.  Estimates indicate that the best consumer price-point for a Sexbot is about US$7,000.00 (2013).  Leases will likely be available.  So will financing.  But for the average dude, shelling out that kind of cash for the perfect sexual companion is a no-brainer.

Imagine a dude getting home from work in his single apartment.  His Sexbot has been pre-programmed to start his dinner and have it ready on demand.  She greets him at the door, asks about his day, gets his dinner, and then spends the rest of the evening satisfying him any way he chooses.  With a sophisticated AI (one of the major focuses of the effort) she will be able to converse with you on nearly any topic or stay blissfully silent.  And you don’t even have to ask about how her day went.

After two years, trade her in for a newer, more advanced model.  Repeat as necessary.

It won’t be perfect . . . but it will be good enough for most men.  Our children’s generation will look forward to a whole lot of men (if Japan is any indication, over half) depending on Sexbots for their erotic entertainment over actual human beings.  Even whores.  Because sexbots are safer than prostitutes by any estimation.

And just how are the feminists greeting this miracle, this great liberation of women from the sexual expectations of evil, lusty ol’ mens?

Following the recent Ontario/Canada Roundtable on Gender Equality, the below provisions have been proposed for the new Human-Robot Personal Relationship Act, the first draft of which is currently being finalized. The provisions are specifically meant to target the concerns that were expressed at the roundtable that sexbots will negatively impact the pursuit for gender equality and may unduly emphasize the objectification of women as sexual objects. The suggested provisions fall into the larger framework of regulating the emerging service robot industry that will be governed by the Human-Robot Personal Relationship Act and under the direction of the Ministry of Robots and Artificial Intelligence, to be established in Ontario and other Canadian provinces and territories at the end of next year.

…The use of sexbots in the privacy of one’s home is prohibited, unless otherwise permitted by the Ministry of Robots and Artificial intelligence or a relevant regulating agency as per the criteria outlined in the Human-Robot Personal Relationship Act.

"Jessica" Model, barely used, got as gift last year;

See?  The feminists don’t want . . . competition.

Vox rightly points out the thinly-veiled, incredibly obvious motivation behind this freakish proposed law: feminists are upset because when dudes can buy a girlfriend for less money than an engagement ring, and then have elective temporary vasectomies to cover their bases for the few times they do end up with a real woman, then the future looks an awful lot like a male paradise and a female hell.

What happens when you’re a woman, you want to be a mom, but not only can’t you find a husband . . . you can’t even find decent sperm?  When in order to conceive, you have to convince a dude to commit to providing you with semen, which he can do only AFTER he consciously gets his vasectomy reversed?  No surprise pregnancies, no one-night-stands gone wrong, suddenly the only way a woman can get pregnant is if she can convince a man to commit to her?  If she can even find one who is interested?

Several feminist groups have maintained that “Control over reproduction is a basic need and a basic right for all women.”  That is, the control of who gets to reproduce, according to feminism, belongs exclusively in the hands of one gender, despite all the braying about “equality”.  But what happens when that just won’t be the case?  What happens in our society when a majority of working women can’t find husbands – or even dates, thanks to the Sexbot craze – and end up working and paying taxes to subsidize other women’s childbearing?  What happens when a dude with superior genetics can start a bidding war on his balls?  What happens when a woman has to ask a man – pretty please – can we have a baby?

The Agricultural Age sex-for-security swap is obsolete – I get that.  Women can make their own money and don’t need us for support anymore.  Great.  Knock yourselves out.  Women are in charge of their own bodies and own reproductive health, according to international treaty, and they can have kids anytime they want.  If they convince a dude to donate.  I’m envisioning a pretty lengthy negotiation and paperwork session before he ever gets to the clinic.

"Samantha" Model, replaced CPU and customized
vagina and mouth.  Speaks with Austrailian accent
but has seven alternate themes.  $8,800.00, firm.
And I’m also envisioning a whole lot of dudes suddenly asking, in very loud voice, just why the hell they should consent to grant a woman their sperm without a dramatic re-negotiation of the socio-sexual contract?  That’s going to happen anyway, naturally, just as it did with industrialization, the pill, divorce, computers and porn.  The temporary vasectomy is literally just a few years away.  Throw in Sexbots, and suddenly men have reproductive power the likes of which they’ve never dreamed, even at the height of the Agricultural Age.  They will decide when they conceive as a conscious choice, not as a whim of Nature.  Have a bad date with yet-another desperate woman who only wants you for your sperm?  Kandi the Asian 19year old Sexbot will make it all better.

And that’s why feminists are trying to ban them.  Not because they “objectify” women, but because they make women largely redundant to men.  Suddenly the allure of their genitalia will pale in comparison to the outrageous sexual bombshells rolling off of the Kyoto assembly lines.  Indeed, by all practical measurements, Sexbots will actually cure a plethora of social ills: STDs, AIDS, unwanted pregnancy, sexual frustration, loneliness, heartbreak, child sexual exploitation, and more.  Far from making men objectify women . . . it will merely make them ignore them.  Men with Sexbots won’t treat women poorly, because more likely than not, once they have the “perfect” programmed girlfriend at home, there really won’t be any reason to interact with women unless you’re at work.

Indeed, Sexbots are so clearly a boon to men that feminist cannot let them be developed.  Consider the advantages to dudes: Men get a life free from rejection or judgment, the two biggest issues for male sexual psychology.  They can indulge themselves sexually with a Sexbot for years, if they desire, before they decide whether or not they want children.  Male sperm is viable until you’re around 70 (and while frozen sperm only lasts a few years, properly harvested and frozen spermatophores, the cells that create sperm, can be frozen indefinitely), so there really is no rush on fatherhood until you’re damn good and ready.  If ever.

Just imagine a society where any man can get his ashes hauled at any time, in any way, without having to ask a live woman to participate.  Just imagine a society where women can’t get “accidentally” pregnant anymore.  Not only is the impetus to marry absolutely killed, but even the impetus to mix with the opposite sex.  And that’s what is scaring feminists, not the potential for objectification.

Sexbots are coming, and the above-legislation is doomed, even if it passes, to languish in court.  Why?  Because the use of Sexbots is protected under  a number of United Nations Treaties dealing with Reproductive and Sexual Rights:

The Cairo Programme of Action clearly spells out the concept of reproductive rights in Chapter 7 which states in part that such rights "rest on the recognition of the basic right of all couples and individuals to decide freely and responsibly the number, spacing and timing of their children and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of reproductive and sexual health. It also includes the right of all to make decisions concerning reproduction free of discrimination, coercion, and violence as expressed in human rights documents."

"Brenda" Model, Like New, some issues with house
keeping programming.  Low mileage, great starter bot.
$5,550.00
The proposed law, above, would be the state directly impinging on the sexual and reproductive freedom of men.  Because if that law isn’t “discrimination and coercion”, I don’t know what is.  Under UN Treaty, the rights of men and women are essentially interchangeable, so claiming special rights for women (such as the right not to have to compete with an android supermodel who can literally suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch for a husband) is unlikely to withstand legal review.  Further, thanks to NAFTA and other international trade treaties, this law may actually violate Free Trade statutes in addition to other international laws.

Just imagine the result if sex with “realistic” Sexbots is actually made illegal . . . why not just pop an alien head on?  Or a animatronic animal head?  Or just a silvery glass sphere?  That’s the real danger for women when it comes to Sexbots: their ability to be customized in ways no woman would ever consent to.  And just imagine a bunch of feminist attorneys standing up in court trying to distinguish (legally) between a woman’s right to buy a realistic dildo (currently protected under Canada’s generous privacy laws) and a man’s right to buy a realistic pussy . . . that just happens to be attached to a $7000.00 human-shaped carrying case.  Like gun control laws, any regulation that seeks to stop the trade will end up producing variations that allow it to be circumvented.

Can’t have a “realistic” full-body Sexbot?  Then just buy her from the waist down.  And then next year spring for a separate torso and head.  You can use them separately, or together!  Cant’ have a Sexbot that portrays a minor?  Get a really, really small model, and no one knows what happens in your imagination.

Rarely has feminism’s hypocrisy and clear agenda been better on display: women get all the sex toys they want, but when men have the one they want, we can’t be allowed to have it because they don’t like it.  That’s it.  Not that it would “hurt the children”, not that it would “spread disease”, not that it would harm . . . anyone.  Just that it would make them feel bad.  Maybe.  Or at least they think it would, so they want to pre-emptively prohibit the technology that doesn’t even exist yet.

My industry will be fighting this type of law tooth-and-nail, because the profit potential in Sexbots is huge – a hell of a lot better than vibrators.  And feminists will come up with more outrageously blatant rationalizations, sent from on-high by the Great Hamster, to tell us why we can’t have them.  But we all know why.

And it’s coming.

It can’t be stopped.

It can’t be reasoned with.

"Connie" Model, bought for light office duty for three-man office.
Can double as a receptionist or a word processor.  Nine different

"Connie" just isn't as satisfying anymore.  $700.00 OBO.
All you can do is accept it.  Because the Japanese are going to build these things, and then the 30 million men in China who have no hope of marriage will buy them like hotcakes, and there’s no way we Americans can let a sweet thing like that slip by us – that would be un-American.

So I, for one, will be welcoming our new Sexbot masters.  It’s going to tighten up the SMP worse than gay liberation did.  And it’s going to make shallow, poor-quality women completely and utterly undatable, and leave them little or no options to reproduce.  And the women who do reproduce will do so only with the permission, consent and acquiescence of men.

One other consequence of the Herbivores that no one is considering?  Think about this: the next generation of Japanese will be the product only of the “Carnivores”, the more manly, aggressive, and sexual men in Japanese society.  The Alphas and High Betas, in other words.  That means that a lot of low-performing mediocrity will be bred out or cultured out.  Which means the 21st century looks pretty good for the Japanese.

Of course, you remember what happened last time things looked good for the Japanese, back in the middle of last century . . .

  1. Mmm…I woulda thought Japan's precarious economic history of the past 20 years combined with online addiction (games, porn, etc.) led to the creation of the herbivore. There is ferocious competition for few available jobs mainly with other men. Japanese women are more traditional and tend to stick more with pink-collar jobs before they get married. And don't forget Japan has a workaholic culture that surpasses probably any other country's work ethic; google karoshi. I'd go herb too!

I understand the schadenfreude displayed here and have nothing against sexbots or the like, but once you get perfectly human-like androids out on the market, it's going to replace just about everybody — from service workers to cubicle jockeys — most of us won't be NEEDED.

    Then you know what happens.

    1. Hey, someone has to repair all of those Sexbots. Do you know how quickly the vaginal motors go out on them?

Japan's economic history did, of course, contribute to the Herbivores, but the impossibly-high standards of Japanese women and the depressing future for Japanese men make life as a herbivore preferable to slaving away for the Man and your Woman more than video games. While they're workoholics, the one thing they aren't working on is dating, marriage, and reproduction, much to the frustration of their female contemporaries.

    2. Not really. The thing the article doesn't mention is that these sexbots are going to be blindingly stupid, because no one has any idea how to make intelligent AI. By the 2020s a high-end model might be as smart as you cat, and its voice recognition probably won't work any better than those programs you can buy for your PC now.

Of course, that's more than enough to upset the SMP by giving legions of low-SMV men an easy sexual outlet. But they're going to be more like pets than life partners, and they certainly aren't going to take over the job market. That won't happen until someone makes a major breakthrough in understanding how human-level intelligence works, which is a problem no one seems to have any real hope of cracking anytime soon.

    3. Not as stupid as you think. The personality emulators I've seen have more wit and charm than most dinner dates. They're Sexbots.
How smart do they have to be?!?

    4. "How smart do they have to be?"

No freaking joke! Most women have AWFUL personalities. They're on attack by default with no reason and they don't even realize it.

I love the fact that almost no female cow-workers (sic) I have can bear to be ignored.

I'm fine with not interacting with the "ladies" at work at all other than work-related activities.

But they cannot help themselves. They MUST comment on my phone calls, clothes, un-shaven-ness, comments to 3rd parties, whatever.

They NEED attention. I would be just as happy to never bother speaking to at least half of them for any reason.

Were it not for my Christian guilt making me forgive idiots for their trespasses, I'd have no friends at all at work.

    5. Billy, you're thinking of chatbots, right? Something like Eliza, where you say something like "How was your day?" and it responds with "Why is it important to you how was your day?"
You're right. Chatbots are morons, and they're morons because of deep, entrenched problems in the field of AI that aren't likely to be solved any time in the next 5-10 years, if they're solvable at all.

But let me introduce you to Nene Anegasaki.
      http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/sal9000-nene-anegasaki

Nene is the heroine of a video game called "Love Plus" that's a girlfriend simulator. You can talk to her (Via a voice recognition system), and she'll pick out simple words and respond to what you say. She's fully voiced too, of course. She has moods, likes, dislikes, and a distinct personality. She's programmed to be the ideal woman. If you click on that link you'll see a youtube video of a guy who GOT MARRIED to her.

Now one guy you can laugh off. Hahaha Japanese loser getting married to his video game. What you need to understand, and what you don't see in the western media, is that this level of attachment is not uncommon. Between all its copies and spin-offs (It has an upgrade, a sequel, and a version for the iPhone), I'd be amazed if it's sold less than a million copies. So even as you read this there are probably still 100,000 people playing with their virtual girlfriends. That's the size of a small city.

But what's really interesting is way women react to Nene, when they find out their boyfriend is playing a copy of the game. These stories don't hit the English press, but they get tossed around Japanese blogs. Women don't treat her the way they treat porn. They treat her as a RIVAL. The same way they'd treat a real, flesh and blood woman who was sleeping with your man. Just last month a was getting married, and as a "surprise" she made her fiancee destroy his copy of Love Plus with a hammer, in public, at the wedding ceremony. There've been a bunch of stories like that.

The one I found the most interesting was a story of a man whose wife found his copy of Love Plus and hauled him before an impromptu hearing consisting of her and her three best friends, all women in their 30s. They all treated it like he'd been cheating on her with a real woman. "She's a slut," they said. "Look at the way she dresses!" And one line I'll never forget, "She's the kind of girl who would punch a hole in the condom so she could get pregnant and take his money."
Stoic, respectable Japanese women in early middle age, who've probably never played a video game in their lives, talking about how a video game character is going to get pregnant with this man's child.

Whatever part of our hindbrain controls the emotions related to love, jealousy, and affection can't distinguish between real humans and fake ones. Read the old stories about men falling in love with statues in museums, or paintings. Heck, read Pygmalion, which goes all the way back to the ancient greeks.

There are a lot of problems to be overcome before a workable sex bot is a thing. I don't see it happening before 2030, and that's a number I just pulled out of my ass. It'll probably take longer. But creating a solid enough virtual personality to get someone to fall in love with it is a hurdle that's already been cleared.

Ian: Where did you see that 60% herbivore number? It's a far higher number than any I've ever seen.

      Delete
    6. The 60% was in a particular demo (32-36, I believe), but the over-all (25-34)is almost 50%. But the thing is, the "movement" is growing as the economy and harsh social conditions make even married men stop having sex and adopt an "herbivorous" lifestyle.

      Here's one reports: http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/07/27/us-japan-herbivores-idUSTRE56Q0C220090727

I read about twenty different reports while preparing the Manosphere book, though, so I can't recall where I saw that specific 60% figure. It's a serious enough problem that the Japanese government is scrambling to find incentives to get people to fuck and get pregnant, however. The demographics show that if Japan doesn't have X number of babies, then they won't be able to support Y number of old people in the future, and that's the kind of stat that drives the Japanese crazy.

It's starting to catch on in some urban areas of China, Singapore, Korea, and Taiwan, according to my sources. Particularly China, which has such a surplus of young men, thanks to the one-child policy. It also seems confined to the tech and corporate sector -- there seem to be few herbivorous farmers. (Strangely, Hong Kong seems resistant. No idea why. Just a curious observation).

But in Japan? I think 2030 is pretty conservative. Ten years. And it won't have to be "perfect" to have a lot of traction . . . and once sales start, then investment in development, higher sales, and suddenly every Omega in town is going home to a hot 19 year old looking Asian sexbot.

The way the current SMP is running in the US, I doubt that things will happen as quickly here. Our society is not nearly as homogeneous. That being said, economic factors usually compel more than cultural factors (see the alteration of marriage patterns in Ireland during the potato famine)when it comes to mating and reproduction. The continued emphasis on post-industrial office and service jobs dictates the further estrangement of young men in our society from the traditional staples of marriage and fatherhood. The hyper-inflated sense of entitlement that young women enjoy seems destined to kill the attraction their potential suitors might feel. In the end, a sexbot, porn, or looking abroad will all seem like better bets than locking horns with Debby Divorcee.

      Delete
    7. I think the 60% figure came from Maki Fukasawa who coined the "herbivore" name back in 2006. Japanese culture is filled with components which will support this change in society. The long popularity of hentai animae; the so-called "carnivore women" who are the hyper competitive women these men are working alongside. I believe there was a pinku eiga movie a few years back called "Maid Droid" which centered on this idea. But the real telling point Ian makes is China 30 million men who haven't a snowball's chance in Hell of landing a wife. Sexbots are a better option for them than invading neighboring countries to capture women.

    9. Well thats the thing i guess. I ve become sick of learning new ways to get "bitches" in bed. Guess what? i did get a few of them. IDK how old are you.. but as years pass by.... i just want to settle down... to an easy going person... not someone i have to decode or understand so that we can have sex.. or either JUST enjoy simple things in life. Im not really a sexbot looking foward guy. But if anything is true here... is that we've come this far because of women. because their lack of affection. because they they always looked for a lovely, good hearted, thoughtful person. But they always rejected him. Because they said they wanted a good person, but ended up with a horrible person. because we.. as men. as persons.. can take that much rejection.
The only human being that rejects something is the one that knows that there'll soon be a next one. i've been in deep love twice now. I treated them as i thought of them... as the women of my life. but they lived life without risks. WIthout taking the big leap. Men in general were always the ones that took the leap of faith. that risked it all for someone else. thats not a MAN thing. thats a good-hearted-person thing. I wished my country was japan. those things will never get here. I ll have to deal with women that know that behind every boy.. theres always another one willing to do more.. and that they can always ditch them all... go out.. and get laid . and get in love again the next morning with another one. Sorry for the long post.. I got carried away. i ve been hurt recently. But its the truth. they dont know good even if it was hitting their door.

  2. Very interesting ideas. I must admit that I have generally dismissed the impact of sexbots in the coming correction in the SMP, leaning instead towards one driven by men’s conscious and sub-conscious general disengagement from women. But this post has made me re-consider; sexbots could well be an accelerant for that disengagement. In particular, the nexus of herbivores in the very country best placed to created sexbots, huge numbers of ‘spare’ Chinese men and many poor quality real life women (from men’s perspective) will result in a huge profit motive to bring these bots to market.

I see Cat Lady has suggested that the schadenfreude in this piece is misplaced, that sexbots will herald a world where no-one is needed. She may be right. But in terms of the SMP, I’m sure most men would say, ‘So what?’. Men have had to listen to being told they are not needed for the last 50 years – this is nothing new. The reason that sexbots will be so disruptive is that for the first time in history women will have to deal with widespread male indifference. And that is what drives their fear of sexbots.

    1. Exactly. And it's going to take everyone by surprise, because feminists dismiss it as "male fantasy fulfillment" and non-feminist women don't want to consider the logical possibilities of the development. Just like temporary vasectomies (USIRIG) will. Suddenly they'll wake up and . . . no more babies.

  4. A lot of speculation here, but it's interesting. I predict there will be nuclear war / environmental holocaust long before humanlike sexbots are affordable for the common man.

"Hey, someone has to repair all of those Sexbots. Do you know how quickly the vaginal motors go out on them?"

Do you know how easy it would be to program an android to repair/program/whatever the sexbots? It would also be very easy to have an army of assassin droids to cull our excess herds of humanity, both men and women. (Think the Chinese govt. really gives a rats ass about the wellbeing of their excess men? They're probably running the numbers and are working on a "final solution.") Our small ruling class of overlords could be served by bots; I guess that's the endgame. No schadenfreude for anyone!

P.S. I would love to see temp. vasectomies, and esp. the male birth control pill come on the market. Only problem is — the ones who really should be using it —professional baby daddies, deadbeats, and those flailing in the genetic pool — will not.

Actually YES, I *do* know exactly how much robots cost. I know the upfront costs, the maintenance costs, the total costs of ownership.

You don't know a damn thing about how much robots cost.

And here's a hint: what we've got now, and what we'll have for the next ten years, are just ROBOTS, not androids or gynoids.

The logistics of supporting a military robot are currently expensive as all hell. Maybe cheaper than supporting a human warfighter, but much more expensive than supporting an industrial robot.

For the next ten years, don't even worry about Japanese gynoids. Worry about Baxter, sold by Rethink for $22,000. Then compare it to your American profiteer-bots sold for by iRobot an insane $60,000 a pop!

If you're interested in sex, worry about 3D VR porn before you worry about servomechanical RealDolls.

      Delete
    2. Wow, $60,000! It's good price. See, if you pay alimony about $50,000 a year, you live in state where you must pay it all your life and you plan to live for example 40 years from now, you will pay 2 million dollars. So if sexbot costs cheaper, it's very good price. But actually even 5 million is a good price because you pay it for sex, but in case of divorce you don't have sex but still pay.

Some of the feminists may go full-out Ouroboros and claim "sexbots are actually taking choice away from women, by denying them the opportunity to become stay-at-home wives and mothers." Suddenly being a stay at home Mommy doesn't seem so horrible, does it?

So no, I didn't google anything, because I've met the dudes who are building the sexbots, seen the current prototypes, and took the time to put the question to a couple of real, live feminists to gauge their response. And THAT confirmed "everything I already believed", because I do this shit for a living and didn't write 2000+ words (one of my shorter posts) without knowing what the fuck I was talking about.

  7. LOL I was scared about genetic manipulation and rampant plastic surgery making me useless, yet it seems sexbots are the bigger threat--I'm already scared of them, was already getting worried over a year ago when I first heard about them on the Tyra Show.

But I don't get it.....why the fixation on making babies? My greatest concern is not getting sperm to reproduce, who the fuck truly cares about that???

The real issue is that women/I will not be able to get love from men. Lol babies are second in priority, but not the strongest human need.

Granted, I'm only 22 so maybe I'll care about children more later (I want a son, eventually), but it will still pale in ocmparison to my need for male affection. Children are a biological obligation, not a desire.

P.S. To be quite honest, I want a sexdoll myself, and I'm not even a guy (not that I'm homo or anything, but they're just soooo pretty and make lonely nights more bearable probably, and I can play dress up--it's like a life-size Barbie, after all--I can even use them as models for drawing/painting, since I like to draw, and there's nothing prettier than the female form). Lol like I literally already thought to myself that once I get a good-paying job......

Only drawing from my own marriage, I can look back and see what a devastating effect my nagging and complaining had on my husband. To see the night and day difference in HIM is truly remarkable - both because inside he always WAS who I tried to change him into and because I was so successful and 'good at' breaking him down. 15. Interesting that this idea is coming up now, it was actually brought up in one of the founding articles of the manosphere. (just search for adult entertainment technologies)

    http://www.singularity2050.com/the-misandry-bubble/

That said, I would agree with the broadest outline of your idea. That is: by 2020 male masturbation technologies/techniques would improve to such an extent that it would cause disruption in the sexual marketplace vastly in favor of men. However, I can't help but nit-pick about the details.

First, I don't think the average beta/herb/loser is going to be sleeping with a humanoid robot that "...has been pre-programmed to start his dinner and have it ready on demand. She greets him at the door, asks about his day, gets his dinner, and then spends the rest of the evening satisfying him any way he chooses." There are a host of problems related to this which will not be overcome by 2020.

In the realm of function, independent robots that have the capability to autonomously perform tasks like common household chores are impractical. This has to do with not only the motor skills needed, but with AI - which is a much harder problem to solve. Machines cannot independently solve problems; they must follow the instructions, algorithms, and loops they have been programed with. The problem with any narrow AI is that it does not scale well when dealing with very complicated problem sets. In other words, an AI must be programed for every contingency it would face because it cannot adapt itself beyond its original programming. Another problem is that of diminishing returns. The amount of effort required to make a narrow AI n% better will increase the more effort is put into it. The curve is exponential. A Roomba works because learning the 2D geometry of a room and passing over it every interval of time is not that hard. A robot that can realistically replace Jeeves the English butler is so many orders of magnitude harder to be completely unfeasible. Besides, Jeeves will always be cheaper than a robot than can fully replace him (not to mention the intangible human qualities that a robot will never have). Functionally speaking, a sexbot would be able to do little beyond what it was designed for in the bedroom.

Another problem with sexbots is the uncanny valley effect. Basically stated, the more human something appears, the more it unnerves us until it crosses some threshold at which it is indistinguishable from human. The problem is that this does not just affect the way something appears or even feels, but the way it moves. We could easily make something that looks as good as a wax figure and feels realistic to the touch by 2020. However, the way that such robots would move would still be problematic. Its movements would be too mechanical and it wouldn't react quite right to human touch or action like a human would. Something would just feel off about it and you would be hard pressed to explain exactly why. While great progress will be made in this area, I don't think they will be able to create something that mimics human movement, speech, touch, and appearance that would surpass the uncanny valley effect by 2020. Some people, nerds especially, would be able to deal with it, but joe the plumber probably wouldn't.

Second, it will be far cheaper and easier to simply adapt what we will have in terms of home theater and video gaming technology to pornographic/masturbatory usage than creating humanoid robots. Virtual reality technology is making huge leaps and will be vastly improved and reach saturation by 2020. We finally have the motion sensing, 3D, haptic feedback, and processing power to render believable virtual worlds. It is only a matter of time before such technology is really used to deliver the coming evolution of pornographic experiences.

    ReplyDelete

  16. Gaming especially will not only provide the platforms for, but also solve many of the problems with creating a convincing experience for people. Not to mention that such a solution would be much more flexible than a physical robot (software and peripherals being much cheaper and more interchangeable than a $7,000 robot). The problems to deal with are far smaller and there will be far more people to work on them. The porn industry has always ridden on the coat-tails of other industries to propagate their material. It is the path of least resistance and is exactly what will happen again here. Robots may have some place, but this is going to be the most prevalent and accessible for the vast majority of people.

That is my $0.02 on the matter.

Of course, this all begs the question of whether one can have sexual relations with an inanimate object. I would argue that you cannot, but that is another discussion.

(sorry for the double comment, the original one was too long)

...but what's to stop a woman from using a sexbot.
    --dannyfrom504

Nothing. But the sex-role reversal of a sexbot for him isn't a sexbot for her. It's her EBT card. Do feminists oppose EBT cards for unwed females - even in law school hypothetical cases? No.

AI fans take note. An EBT card has no AI, no personality, no moving parts at all yet millions of females are willing to 'marry' this low-tech man-substitute.

But let me introduce you to Nene Anegasaki.

I predict there will be nuclear war / environmental holocaust long before humanlike sexbots are affordable for the common man.
    --Anonymous (Cat Lady)

I make the same prediction about men being able to fly like birds. Been right so far but hang-gliding and jet airliners do exist and appear to be satisfactory substitutes.

Similarly, a device far, far less life-like than a Marilyn Monrobot will be enough to suit the purpose and shift the tastes of so many men that 80% of men will only be interested in the 20% or so of females that are the most attractive of the crop. Just look around you, Cat Lady, at what porn for females (so-called romance novels and supposedly mainstream entertainments such as Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey) has done to female expectations. They're not high-tech at all. And females of both the feminist and traditionalist persuasions have long been complaining that equally low-tech Playboy magazine and sex videos have changed what is considered sexually attractive in females to a lot of men. Finally, consider that only very few prostitutes - human as they are - are asked to fully simulate the entire girlfriend experience.

Maybe something as far from being human-like as the orgasmatron in Woody Allen's movie Sleeper will suffice. Microwave ovens and dishwashing machines have replaced the kitchen drudge; washing machines and clothes dryers have replaced the laundry girl. None of those machines are at all human-like.

I agree with much of what this Anonymous commenter wrote here. I find the talk of an "uncanny valley" dubious and don't consider it a barrier to eventual market acceptance of some more sophisticated version of the blow-up dolls adult entertainment shops sell today. (I can't tell if that commenter intended to denigrate nerds or blue-collar Joes.)

Our small ruling class of overlords could be served by bots; I guess that's the endgame.
    --Anonymous (Cat Lady)

I recall it was Werner von Braun who joked that human beings would never be completely replaced by machines because humans are inexpensive to maintain and easily reproduced by unskilled labor. A world in which machines almost completely substitute for the opposite sex will leave mostly the most inhuman roles left for human beings to take. (Thanks, feminists!) Consider the gritty, street-level Los Angeles depicted in Ridley Scott's version of Blade Runner and the females living in a world where they were subject to replacement by artificial persons for companionship and sex.

    1. And here we have it folks, the feminist Final Solution: male genocide.

That's why I can never associate myself positively with feminism again. The radfems might be the ones proposing it, but that deafening silence you're hearing from the Equity feminists is not the thunder of disgust and revulsion at such a proposal . . . no, they'd rather discuss it calmly over coffee and invite these women to speak for them. This is far from the first time I've heard of artificial meiosis -- sci-fi writer, remember? But I also know enough science (and I'm married to a microbiologist) to know that artificial meiosis means an appalling lack of genetic diversity that will turn the resulting girls into stunted dwarf-children with scads of genetic defects.

But by all means do that. I'll put your dwarf-girls up against my naturally human kids any time. The competition is sure to be fierce, and since you can't do artificial meiosis without advanced medical technology (which requires a fully-functioning post-industrial civilization . . . you know that thing that Men invented that allowed you to have feminism?) then your pseudo-human race is utterly vulnerable to natural and artificial disasters.

The Sperm might be archaic, but its far from obsolete. But your admission is informative. You clearly see a world without men as better than the one we inhabit now. If that's not textbook misandry, not to mention support of genocide, I don't know what is.

j/k Thanks for building us a fully-functioning post-industrial civilization, suckers.

You're still missing something. If we remove both the lezbo dwarf girls AND the masturbating wapanese boys (remember them?) from your human gene pool, then you're back to your original problem again. After we balance the numbers, the quality trim willing to host your seed goes back to being a limited resource, which you'll have to compete for, same as always.

Regardless, human civilization - in highly-developed Western countries,at least - will weed-out feminists' power before it weeds-out sexbot enthusiasts, due to the ideology callously demanding and realizing the transfer and spending of (largely others') funds far beyond the entities' (governments') means.

So, just as men don't need women because of sexbot technology, women don't need men because of reproductive technology. In fact, man-less children is technically feasible today whereas the advanced sexbots described here are a pipedream - AI has consistently failed to deliver on its grandiose promises and will continue to fail, mark my words.

But what the most hilarious thing that the "we can do without men cause we can make sperm" crowd is that they fail to realise how utterly reliant modern "independent" women are on men, even if it's only through legislation and wealth redistribution through Pimp Daddy G. The replacement for men isn't the sperm bank, it's the EBT card.

Tell me, how are all those lesbians suing sperm donors for child support doing?

Also, it's likely diploidization of eggs could be engineered if research was put into it - parthenogenesis.

My point stands that AI has consistently over-promised and under-delivered. Also, a Japanese sexbot... given what the Japanese do for pR0N I'm not sure that's a bright idea...

  27. Wow - what a downhill slide of selfish moral decline when a person will trade human contact for self indulgent behavior. And it's obvious from some of the comments that there are a lot of jilted and angry males, but it happens to women too. It happened to me.

I was married for many years to a physically abusive, lazy, manipulative, nagging man (male). He purposefully got me pregnant and was very controlling. The reason for sharing is to show that women also experience negative relationships with men too. It would be easy for me to say yeah, create me a male sexbot that protects, is faithful and truthful, helps provide financial support (I have my own job), says only what I want to hear, who is built like the Rock with more than just average sized equipment and isn't a selfish 5-minute man! However, I have found that nothing can take the place of a human relationship. Nothing can take the place of the arms of a human when you've received devastating news or simply holding hands walking down the beach at sunrise or sunset. I don't hold every man responsible for what my ex husband did to me.

Men..relax because not every woman wants your money or stud services. If you were rejected, get over it and be happy that you didn't end up with the wrong person. And frankly, I don't like to hear "we need to talk" either.

Sexbots can't give what humans give, which is what all humans seek...love. Note that they are't called LOVEbots:)

    1. You are making several assumptions here, and while your observations are valid, you don't truly share their perspective. You're calling it selfish and self-indulgent, but stop to consider that these men theoretically have the choice of human contact, but when presented with what is available they would prefer to spend time with a machine. Shaming them about that choice is cruel and insensitive, but a common rationalization for women who are faced with the reality of their declining worth, socio-sexually speaking.

Look at what you, yourself hold out as the list of a "perfect man" -- and in our culture failure to live up to that high expectation, coupled with the broken commitment of marriage, make the sexbot idea highly appealing. I know plenty of perfectly decent guys whose ex-wives describe them as you describe your ex.

Without the institution of marriage being a true commitment, and frivolous divorce being so popular, men in the 21st century are becoming more and more wary of such things. Easy sex, porn and electronic entertainment fulfill most of his needs, and if the allure of modern women was that appealing, he'd drop them all.

But it isn't. So these fellas are taking their collective balls and going home. The female propensity for calling them names and trying to shame them -- as you are -- is one of the reasons why. Women, in aggregate, are all too willing to resort to shame instead of taking a compelling look at themselves and holding themselves to account.

25% of the Caucasian women in America are unmarried after 30. Fear of divorce is one reason. Female economic self-sufficiency is another. But if all y'all have to offer men is sex, splitting the bills and tepid companionship before inevitable divorce, then what incentive does a man have to do that? Love? Your own case proves how fleeting that reason is.

If you and your fellow women truly feel that nothing can take the place of human companionship, then I suggest y'all ask yourselves why would these guys would rather snuggle with a toaster instead of y'all. Because with gallant exceptions, what you're bringing to the table these days just isn't getting it done. You can blame us for that, but without some serious introspection you're going to rationalize it away and miss the point.
